Carleen Cullen – Chair

In her role as co-founder and executive director of Cool The Earth, Carleen draws from a wealth of experience, having previously created an international company in the technology field. Her entrepreneurial endeavors began in 1986 when she moved to New York City to become a partner in a start-up venture with her brother. Together they grew the business, Ovid Technologies, into a successful global information technology giant in the medical and scientific markets. After expanding to include 120 employees at 5 international offices, Ovid went public (Nasdaq) in 1994 and was successfully sold in 1998. In 2006, after moving to California with her husband Jeff, Carleen co-founded Cool the Earth, Inc. Carleen has a BA in English Literature from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, CA and graduated in 1986.


Mary Matteson Bryan – Energy Engineer

Mary has over 20 years of experience in the energy efficiency field and has held senior positions at the consulting firms of EMCOR Energy Services and Newcomb Anderson McCormick. As a consultant, she directed teams of engineers in providing expert energy engineering analysis. With an emphasis on technical support for utility customer energy efficiency programs, Mary currently manages the Lighting Portfolio for Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) Company’s Emerging Technologies Program. Mary has an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of AZ. She has been providing Cool the Earth with invaluable volunteer hours from its inception.


Kiki Goshay – Filmmaker and fundraiser

Kiki is a professional in the film industry. Her recent credits include work as executive producer on the 2005 film, “How to Eat Watermelon in White Company …and Enjoy It,” a documentary about revolutionary film maker Melvin Van Peebles, which won a Lancia award for best film, received a Best Audience award in the Biographia Film festival in Bologna, Italy and was picked up by IFC. She was also the producer of the feature film, “The Job,” directed by Shem Bitterman and starring Ron Perlman, Taryn Manning, Patrick Flueger and Joey Pantoliano. Recently she produced an environmental TV pilot entitled, “Shades of Green.”


Lawrie Mott

Lawrie Mott is currently an independent consultant specializing in environmental health. From 1982 to 2000, she was a senior scientist with the San Francisco office of the Natural Resources Defense Council. Lawrie has served on a wide variety of environmental and educational nonprofit boards in the past. Presently she is a board member at Resource Media – a media strategy organization focused on environmental issues, Marin Academy – an independent high school, and Envision School – a charter school management organization. She received her BA from UC Santa Cruz and her MS from Yale University.


Mark Nelson, Technology and Business Executive

Mark Nelson has proved his business acumen, as the founder and CEO of search technology giant Ovid Technologies, where he worked alongside his sister Carleen Cullen. Ovid Technolgies, conceived and begun by Nelson in 1988, went public in 1994 and was sold to multi-national Wolters Kluwer in 1998. After moving to Northern California with his wife and twins in 2003, Mark purchased a Napa vineyard and created a Family Foundation with an emphasis on supporting the environment, classical music and education. Mark has a BA and MA in English Literature from Columbia University.


Sally Peck – Principal, Bacich Elementary, home of Cool the Earth

Sally has been an educator for over 28 years, both as a classroom teacher and as an administrator in independent and public schools in Southern and Northern California. Currently, Sally is the Principal of Bacich Elementary School in Kentfield, California a K-4 school serving over 570 students. The school district is the first and only public school in California that is 100 percent solar. Bacich also boasts a focus on environmental awareness through Green Teams, a No-Waste lunch program, a spring environmental science fair, and various monthly environmental Initiatives. Outside of Bacich, she serves as a facilitator for Schools Attuned a program which supports the understanding differences in student learning.
